Normally in the mornings when I work my partner will get up and tend to the baby, make my eldest daughters lunch, make sure she's fed and presentable and cart her off to school. This morning I woke to him coughing and disgruntled and so I took over his normal duties.. I woke happily and did the usual morning routine, I took Kyra into school and carried on to my favorite coffee spot. I began to read my local news in the hopes of following a story regarding a missing persons. I then looked up and saw a funeral procession passing by. I believe it is very important for me to pass on the events that are currently taking place in our small town.

I will relate the situation as I understand. There was a girl in our town named Tyeshia Jones (18yrs old)  that went missing on January 22 and she was found dead on January 28th. The media has not released any information other then the fact that it has been declared a homicide and that they are still looking for her murderer(s).

Today I would like to respects this girl and her family.

Umm, more buttons?

The inside of this bag is the pink paisley in the buttons below, unfortunately I couldn't capture the print under a harsh indoor light..its currently nighttime :)

Soooo, I made this this past Holiday Season. It was my attempt at doing something crafty amongst the madness of  Christmas and it worked. All except the finishing touch of the flap.. I could not find a button, bow or anything I liked anywhere.. However; it turns out I can make buttons. Presto! A beautiful little clutch in a lovely forties inspired style is born. And with a perfectly matching button no less.

Sooo Buttons..

I was digging threw my sewing kit (which is a big old plastic monstrosity that I bought at a garage sale about nine hundred years ago for $5, probably the best purchase of my life) and I found some booty in the bottom! This sewing kit seems to be a magical bottomless pit of wonderfulness, whenever I need inspiration its where I go. The point is, that I found buttons! The metal kind that you cover with fabric, wonderful! I had to go out and buy the little contraption that you snap them together with, I had tried to Macgyver something for the job but it didn't work. Anyhow, I am quite happy with the end result. Polka dots and paisley will be a reoccurring theme here, just so ya know.

I will eventually make an Etsy account and post all of my wares there. However in the meantime if you see something you'd fancy send me a message with what you might like and how much you'd like to pay or trade and we can go from there!

Sometime you just don't know 'til your there.

I have followed a lot of these 365 day projects. I read over and over that making that first project was one of the hardest parts. I did not heed this warning. I really thought it was going to be very easy to start this ball a rollin'.

Yes, I said it. Easy.

So, this is my second attempt with a second theme and I'm on day seven. So far this blog is all I've made.

I guess, technically that makes it my first project! Although I am sure it will endure metamorphosis before the end of the year, its at least ready to be seen!

I hadn't realized how completely out of touch I was with technology and how much there is going on that I don't know about. So far, its been humbling!

Bonus! Today's Skull-a-day was freakin awesome.

And let the blogging commence..

So, here we are. I figure I will toss out a disclaimer; I am practically computer illiterate. Please bare with me.

And now that we have the legal outta the way, Its good to be here. I am feeling pleasantly surprised at my new found desire to network and connect with more then my immediate family and friends. I am also surprised at how hard it is to find other blogs, I had no idea how much there was to this whole "blogging" thing. I am sure I will get it.. I am going to make an effort to find awesome and awe inspiring blogs to follow and share. I added a few today. Check out :Mellows Log Cabin, he's got some great old music on there and for free no less!

Sunday, January 30

Today is the day!

The day that I create my blog to accompany my passion for all things Pin-Up and Rockabilly. For the next 365 days I will share something I've created, captured or found.

My love affair with Rockabilly began at the age of 6 with the movie Cry Baby, an obvious choice for a children's movie! I am sure we bought a copy of the movie only after I wore out the one from our little local Video store.

My love of Pin-Up art has been deeply ingrained in me by my mother, for as long as I can remember she has displayed a collection of Vagas Girls on her wall. These women always represented the epitome of strength, class and elegance in my mind. I now have two beautiful daughters of my own and I hope to raise them to the understanding that beauty has everything to do with these qualities. I also hope that by completely immersing myself in this beauty it will have an everlasting impression on my life.
